Being a big Qawalli fan and also of Amir Khurso's poetry, I could not stop myself from posting this latest rendition of Rang presented by Coke Studio. Some verses of the poetry have such deep meaning that they just blow you off. The ending is just amazing. Revival of classical Qawalli, quite well done !

Somebody posted this song on Facebook and I am hooked on to it, once again !

Sometime, some songs stick in my head and refuse to let go. This is one of them maybe because I liked this rendition. I had big hopes from Coke Studio India but it failed to deliver. I was pretty disappointed. Maybe they could have learned something from this foreign composer !

Out of nowhere, a song started playing on my playlist after a long long time and once again I am hooked to it.

It will keep playing in Repeat mode now till I get sick of it :)

I don't know why but since some time I am not able to get over this jugalbandi and is being played over an infinite loop in my head and my music players.

I am a big admirer of traditional Indian instruments. I have always loved instruments like flute and shehnayi. There are songs where some pieces of flute are just amazing. One example is the flute piece from Tanhayi song of Dil Chahta Hai movie. And now I heard this piece of Shehnayi which almost blew me away. I think it is the most refreshing piece of music that I have heard in a long long time. It is having quite a magnetic effect on me and forced me to put it here :)

Late last night I was returning from a friend's place after dinner. On the way, while listening songs on my iPod in the shuffle mode, this song started playing which I happened to hear after a long time. There was a time when I used to hear it n-number of times. The original song is pretty old but the two renditions which I like the most are:

The first one is a much more polished version which might have been perfected in a studio but what I like most about it is the fusion of music instruments with the vocals. The flute piece towards the end just melts me away. I think, I have a thing for flute. I feel it might be the only instrument which can make me go weak in my knees, when played. Another flute piece which I like a lot among new songs is the one in Tanhai from Dil Chahta Hai.

The second rendition when heard even without the video sounds more sincere and straight from the heart. That is what I like about it. Moreover the vocals in the second one are far better than the first.

I have listened both the renditions a million times but even today I cant decide which one is better. Sometimes I feel the power punch comes from the lyrics than anything else which just hits you! How about your opinions?

Usually, it is highly unlikely that I like a remix of an old Indian song. I am a huge fan of Bollywood oldies and I think I am kind of a purist and don't really appreciate people messing with the originals. But for some reasons, this remix from the movie Shaitan kept me hooked all over the weekend. The video could be pretty graphic for some people but then just listen to the audio.

I am also not a big fan of item songs but this latest one from Budha Hoga Tera Baap had kind of a magnet effect on me. The music has a flavor like a mix of Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Band Baaja Baarat and Beyonce's Single Ladies. So this weekend I was quite surprised on my likings.

I had always admired the Coke Studio show by Rohail Hyatt. And in its new season, I am hooked on to two pieces played in the first couple of episodes. Not so surprisingly, Sanam Marvi is back again in this season and I just adore her singing. So the first one is from her. I feel she is one of the few singers who really sings from her heart. With the voice she has and the command on those vocals, she could be the new Abida Parveen of the future.

The second one is from the classical Qawalli singers. What impressed me the most was how the new age instruments had gelled so good with the classical singing. But this is not new from Coke Studio. They had been always very innovative at creating new music.
